03 210 wont start after winter storage

I hooked up the fake-a-lake and tried to give the boat its first start of the season. After a minor battery issue, the boat appeares to be working fine except it wont start. Starter, bells and engine sound and turn normal.

Its been sitting for about six months in a garage. Freezing is not a issue. I also put some sta-bil in the fuel before storing it. Any suggestions of where I should start?

Make sure your battery cables are securely fastened and that the battery is fully charged, a loose connection or low amperage will allow the dash and controls to turn on but will prevent it from turning the engine over. Also check the simple things like fuses (there one online right off the battery) and the safety laynard.

Is it turning the engine over but not starting, or does it not even try to crank? The latter would imply an electrical issue.

The engine turns over no problem, so the starter / battery sound like they are working well. It just wont ignite. How do I know if the kill switch is working? Maybe bad fuel?

BTW, it has always started quickly before today.

First thing I would do is pull a plug and take a look at it. Is it wet? If so, is it gas or oil? Attach it to the plug wire (dry it off if it was wet), ground the base on the engine somewhere, crank the engine and see if it sparks.

        Let us know.

put it in gear and then pull it back into neutral making sure it clicks back in. most will not do anything if its slightly in gear but its worth a shot.

Check the safety lanyard next to the drivers seat. This is exactly what would happen when that is pulled. By the way, first time I put the boat in the water this season, I tried starting it 6-7 times before I realized my lanyard was laying on the floor!

Whoops, didn't read the thread first before posting...looks like you've already checked the safety lanyard? I don't know, if everything else is working fine, it was firing up no problem before, and it is turning over normally, it sounds kill switch related to me.

It takes 3 things for an engine to run.. fuel, spark, and compression. We'll assume you still have compression since I doubt anything has happened during lay-up to loose compression to all cylinders. That leaves fuel and spark. Check to make sure you have spark at the plugs. You can remove the plugs and ground them to the engine looking for spark, or you could get a spark tester to do the same thing. Check the fuel pressure with a pressure tester, or better yet listen for the FCC to cycle when you turn the ignition on. If you here the pump cycle check the fuel pressure. If either of these items are missing you should be able to diagnose further to find the problem.

You can jump the kill switch with a wire to test it.

When you turn on the key, does the fuel pump pressure up? Check the shrader valve at the top of the fuel pump (looks like a tire valve) and see if there is pressure in the line while ignition is on. If you are not getting gas squirting out, your fuel pump is not powering up or quit working. Disconnect the fuel pump wires and test with a voltage meter to make sure that the pump is receiving power. If it is, its the pump, if its not, its a relay or ecm. I just replaced a 15.00 relay in mine, that cost me a half a day out on the lake. Hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone. I'm 95% sure the fuel pump went out. I will know for sure tomorrow.

Simple Fuel pump test for the DIY

Take a plastic bottle, and dissconnect the fuel out line from the pump. But the end coming from the pump in the bottle. Turn the key swith to on. You do not need to turn the motor over! At this point the injection system sends fuel, which you will see in youir bottle. It will shoot out about a half a cup or so. If the pump is working fuel will move. If it does not then your problem is your pump.

Thanks again for all the help. I started another thread regarding info on changing out the fuel pump. Any further input would be greatly appreciated.
