I need a little help with the starter

I have an 1989 SN. I bought it about 2 weeks ago, took it out today and when starting the motor it cranks fine but the starter continues run after the boat cranks. I tried hitting the ingition button to kill the power but the starter still continued to run. I also tried turning off the key switch and it still kept turning the motor over. The starter looks like it is new and so does the soenoid. Finnaly I stopped it by turning the key switch on and off several times. Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Its most likely a 351w engine. Your problem is either the Ign switch or the starter relay. If the relay has two small terminals make sure the I terminal goes to the Ign switch not to the distributor. If it happens again disconnect the wire from the Ign switch going to the starter relay if it stops the Ign switch is probubly bad.
