211 Cupholder Replacement

I bought stainless steel replacement cupholders for my 05 211 and having trouble replacing the one next to the glove box. I can get the old plastic holder out by bending but can't get the new steel holder in due to windshield clearance.

Any suggestions? Has anybody else done this?

Ouch! Have you called your dealership? I would imagine they've done it and would know what it takes.
