    Servicing Fuel Filter

On my 03 Excalibur, I can't spin the main aluminum housing off to access the filter, even with a strap wrench. And yes, I am turning it the correct way Any tips or tricks?

    Thanks

on my gt40 there is a nut on the bottom to put a wrench on. maybe check and see if yours has one.

Apparently this is a common issue on the FCC for several model years. I am planning to take my FCC completely off the engine, and use a vise and a diesel truck filter wrench to crack mine open. There are several threads on the forum with other ideas on getting the filter unit loose.

if you search the maintenance forum there is a great thread about this. i just read it yesterday. basically, undo the drain plug at bottom of filter, i believe it's a 7/16 socket, drain into a 1qt or slightly larger bucket, then using two oil filter wrenches(one at bottom and one near but not at top) go for it. also try the webbing wrenches from auto parts store. you may have to put some cheesecloth on it to make it stick. apparently from the factory that are on insanely tight. no need to tighten that much when reinstalling. just check after a little while of use to be sure it's seated tightly. hope this helps.

The nut on the bottom is only for a fitting. It is not there to remove the FCC cannister.
They can be insanely tight the first time you take it off. A good strap type oil filter wrench will do it. I have had to put a foot on the bottom of one, with the filter wrench at the top, to counteract the twisting from the torque I was putting on one to get it to come off.

If it's the first time taking it off, plan on removing the whole unit from the engine. Put it in a vice, and use the mounting bolts on top to provide a leverage point for a pry bar. I used a 2 1/2 foot pry bar the first time removing mine!
I had zero luck with a strap wrench on mine....

Mine is welded on... a 5/8 or 3/4 i believe. the fitting/drain nut is like a 7/16. I dont know if the larger nut is inteaded for that or not...but it worked to get it off. If it isnt then guess ill use another method next time.

                  Canisters from ****!!!!

Older FCC canisters!!! I use a very large pair of Channel lock plyers Actually they are Snap on. Their really is no nice way to remove some of these from **** canisters other than getting kinda tough with them. When I re install I use anti Sieze on the threds for the next time.
I have actually broken two high end oil filter wrenches at one time trying to remove the canister.
As far as the V-drive I have a fitting set up that I attach to the lower hose and pump out the v-drive.
