I got a 30 LB one at Nappa, the stock one is 20LB. You can also get them at Nautique Parts.

I just bought some at NAPA

I put a NAPA brand 20lb gas shock on the glove box and it works but doesn't have a lot of extra hold. The glove box lid is actually pretty heavy for it's size.

I replaced mine with a 30 lb gas spring and my glove box closes like a crocodile's mouth! Make sure your fingers are nowhere near! But it has no problem holding up the lid that's for sure.

I bought a 30lb 7.5" shock from this guy: strut-your-stuff@clearwire.net

He sells struts on ebay, I bought it directly from him. It works significantly better than the factory unit. I also relocated the lower stationary ball mount so it doesn't snap down on unsuspecting fingers like it does with the factory location. Moved the ball as low as possible in the glove box so it is constantly pushing up on the lid. Works much better now. I don't mind the extra screw holes inside my glove box.
