GT-40 Fuel Issue - Fuel pump??

    2000 ski nautique.
Boat stopped working. It sat for a couple hours and it fired right up. I figured the fuel filter was clogged.
I replaced the fuel filter but it still wouldn't start. The resevoir that the filter is in filled up with fuel after I cycled the egine a couple times. I have good spark and it will run off starting fluid but shut done after its burnt off.

I checked the the valve at the end of the fuel rail and there is no gas comming out when I try starting the engine.

    Is it the fuel pump??

Is there 2 fuel pumps or just one?

    Thanks, Jeff

I had a somewhat similar problem and it ended up being the antisiphon in the fuel line where it comes out of the top of the fuel tank. Also, check the little hose inside the FCC for wear. Could easily be something else, but these are two easy things to check.

Have you checked you emergency cut off switch for intermitent failure? also failure of the connection in the wire assembly between the ecs and the main wire harnes. Also the fuel pump relay has been known to fail or have poor conections. Also the low pressure pumps will fail. Look for ground problems and do a wiggle test on your fuel pump circut. Do you own a multi meter and are capable of checking for power at the fuel pump connections?
This will get you started on fixing your problem!

I just went through this intermittent problem on my '99 GT40

When it stops next time. open the engine box and listen for the fuel pump to prime. If it is not priming, chances are, it is the relay. This is a $12 part.

When you pull your killswitch, try this, and you lose everything. Perfect Pass servos don't even wind up.

I replaced the low pressure fuel pump, fuel filter, kill switch, and the anti0siphon valve. Finally, replaced the relay. The relays do not register error codes, so if you take it to the dealer and it works (because it works for a while, then doesn't), the dealer would just start replacing parts as well.

I posted in another post out here somewhere how to tell which one is the fuel pump relay and which one is the ECM. Just look for my posts on here and you will see my descripton.

I can hear the low pressure fuel pump cycle when I go to start the engine. It primed the FCC full. The engine will run off starting fluid. I am just not getting fuel up from the FCC to the Schrader valve in the fuel rails. So I am assuming it is the high pressure pump and not the relay since the relay controls the low and high pumps.

Just becuse you hear the low pump does not mean it is filling the FCC . Pull the FCC apart and see if it is full of fuel. At that point also check to see if the connections on the High pump are good.

I replaced my fuel filter and the FCC was empty. When the motor would not start after cycling the engine, I figured the FCC still needed gas. So I unscrewed the canister to prime it and it was full.

Relays on the back of the engine. I have seen at least 7 GT-40's with the problem.
