    2002 nautiique GT40 wont start

I just bought this boat. It has 500 hours on the engine. It is in very good condition. I have only been out in it a few times. Last week, I tried starting it for about 30 minutes. I put in the code, hit the start button and the engine only runs while the start button is pushed in. As soon as I release it, it dies. I believe the battery is good, because the starter would get the engine running but it would die immediately on button release. Yesterday I took the boat out and everything was fine. Today everything started out fine, until I decided to turn it off in the middle of the lake! Well we have a hot start problem. Exactly as before, the engine only runs while the start button is pushed in and dies if I try to put it in gear. I went thru the manual for flooded engine issues, and I got it briefly to rev up if I pushed in the nuetral button and gave full throttle. This happened several times. I looked at the engine and there was a thin rubber thread hanging off the front belt. No knife so I could not cut it. Tried starting a few more times and gave up and humbly asked for a tow. When I got the boat back to the house I inspected the engine compartment- that front belt had come off completely. What's up?

The original post is a few months old, but for the benefit of future searches, it sounds like the kill switch aka deadman's switch. Make certain it is firmly in place. Check connections. Try a bypass.

Did you get it fixed? If so, what was the problem?
