2003 SANTE w/ 5.7L missing a little during first 15 minutes of driving

It only happens for a minute or two and then it quits for the rest of the day. It will drop rpms bad and then with a little juicing of the throttle it will clear up and not happen again for the rest of the day. Think maybe the water seperator or fuel filter needs changing? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thx,

    Rj

sounds like a cold collared engine (cold engine). if it was water seperator the problem would prosiest as well as the fuel filter. but wouldnt hurt to change the fuel filter, but never would hurt also to change plugs and wires. how many hrs have you put on it since its last tune up?

ok, last time I took it out it did it two or three times in a short afternoon session, anybody got any other ideas? I'm thinking about putting some fuel treatment in there and filling it up with premium a couple of times first. If that doesn't resolve it by the first of next week just put it in the shop and let them figure it out. Needs an oil change anyway. Thought maybe replacing the fuel filter, plugs, and plug wires but not sure that will even do any good since it's random and not constant.

Hey man. Have you taken your distributor cap off and looked at the underside of it? Check contact on rotor button too. I had an '03 that was bucking and wouldn't run right. I went through everything from coil to plugs and wires. I took the cap off and it was corroded as well as the rotor button. They will get moisture up under them bad.

I have a 2003 also and just had the same problem not a week ago, kept getting worse every time we took it out. Took it to the dealer and it was the distrubutor cap. It had a ton of corrusion.

It takes five minutes to pull the engine cover off, unscrew the distributor cap, and flip it over. Well worth it.

maybe this will help others, took it and they changed the fuel filter which was the original one they said, changed the oil, changed the belts, and a couple of other odds and ends, well the low pressure pump was supplying gas fine, the high pressure one not so much, it was a loose electrical connection on the high pressure pump, should be able to pick it up this afternoon they said, i'll ask them to show me which one and i'll take a picture when i get it out on the water next time to show everyone what to look for, maybe it will save someone from taking it in to the shop, i'm sure it was an easy fix anyone could do if they know what to look for
