Heater wiring

I have low voltage problem with my boat, in particular when the heater is running. After some investigation, I don't think the heater is relayed. ie it runs off the power coming up to the dash pod. You would think that with something that draws that much current that it would be on a relay directly from the battery. I'm thinking that's my culprit for my problem.

Wouldn't be that hard to wire up; long 10-12 guage wire and fuse from battery and a relay. Trigger relay off normal on/off from dash.

Maybe Frost can enlighten us?

Is it a 2004? There is a service bulletin to fix that issue. Contact your dealer about it.

SN is right, check with your dealer, there is a very easy fix for the issue and shouldn't take long to have it corrected. This is for some 04's and 03's

Anyone have access to these "service bulletins" would be great to start a collection of these in the owners manual section. I volunteer to scan and make the PDFs. Thoughts! Come on you dealer guys!

Usually they don't let those out of the dealers hands. I guess you could talk to your dealer and see what they have to say.

Why? Are the dealers supposed to contact the owners when they get one that effects that owners boat? Or do they just keep them and use them when a owner complains about a prob?

They don't contact us when they get one...they tell you about it when you call with a problem. Auto manufacturers are the same. Crappy way to do business. I will be indicating this on my owners survey on my 2004. You know the one they say if you fill it out we send you a free Tshirt. Then never send the Tshirt. Yes...I will be commenting on that also.

Dont get me wrong I think CC is a great boat, but not sure what it would hurt to let us "do it yourselfers" have the tech bulitens.

Jeff probably got in trouble for posting the Recall on the steering bolt (details were only provided to the dealers).

No, didn't get in trouble for it, but I am sure CC would rather have a dealer complete that particular procedure since it was an official recall, instead of just a service bulletin. As a matter of fact, I worked with a representative from the Correct Craft factory on getting that one posted.

CC even sent me my shirt after I filled out my owner's survey.

Alot of the reason for the dealers having te bulletin is do to that fact that it MAY effect certain boats but it might not effect them. Also, Correct Craft stays up to date on what has been done to each boat. Take the steering update for example. If a "do it yourselfer" does it, CC has no sure way of knowing that it was done and/or done properly. Through the dealer, there is a better knowledge about whether or not the work was done and done properly. CC pretty much knows that the dealer will do the work and will do it properly or else their butt is on the line.

I checked my local source for this TSB and they hadn't heard anything of the like. Is there anybody who can provide the TSB?
Question still open for discussion.
Did find that there is actually 3 hot wires for the heater, low, medium and high. Don't know it they are separate voltages for each or just a trigger for the fan to spin at different speeds. If it's different voltages then it would make for this mod a little more difficult.

Yes different voltages, I don't have them with me, I can try to get that for you

It is a diode that CC was supplying to correct the problem. One will fix the problem. The most common occurences were with the heater button and/or the belly ballast button.

Wakejunky the heater motor only draws 15 amps so no real need to use a relay. It sounds like a bad connection some where. On the wiring the red, yellow, and orange all have 12 volts going to them and thwe resistors are built into the motor to reduce the voltage to control the speed. Now are the conditions that you are having is the volt gauge on the dash is showing low voltage when the heater is on or is the boat not keeping up with the heater and discharging the battery? But I would like to know what year of boat you have to properly give advice on how to proceed to check out the heater.
