We were driving down the lake at about 23mph at 3k rpm and the boat came off plane backfired and the check engine light came on. I shut her down and fired her back up. It reved fine until about 2500rpm then the backfire and light again. It sounded just like when the high pressure fuel pump went out last fourth of July. I thought this thing just doesn't like holidays. We switchede the fuel pump and ignition relays and it still started and idled fine. We noticed the fresh water strainer was really dirty. We cleaned it, fired it back up, and went the rest of the day without issue. Would lack of water from the clogged filter cause a limp mode condition without any indication of high temps? In other words everything seemed normal on the gauges at the time it happened.
