Need to install new bilge pump. Questions re: upgrade

I need to install a new bilge aft bilge pump in my 2002 SAN. I was going to take the opportunity to replace the original with a higher capacity because of the amount of ballast I run with when wakesurfing (prob not needed but I enjoy these type of things). My question is, the current pump does not appear to have a float (rule 500 gph). Can I upgrade to the 2000 gph (changing the fuse capacity of course) without adding the float. I believe both have the auto-pump feature (button pushed on the control pad) as well as the cycle to sense if water is present. Does anyone have experience with this upgrade? Is there a better pump recommended? Any info is much appreciated

I recently upgraded both bilge pumps, completely rewired the system directly to the battery, and added a separate switch so the pumps will operate even if the dash pad fails.

As for the bilge pumps, I used these 750 gph Johnson pumps that are combined with electro-magnetic float switchs. The switches are not mechanical so debris will not damage the switch, and not automatic, so they will not run at all unless water is present.

For the wiring, I used 12 guage pre-tinned wire fron genuinedealz.com

I ran a completely new switch and mounted it next to the ballast guages. The switch allows me to turn the system on automatic, which allows the float switchs to work, or run the system manually, which will run the pumps regardless of the float switch. Below is the link for the switches.

I recently went on a lake trip for a week, where it rained every night, and the electro-magnetic float switchs worked perfectly.

I upgraded to a Rule with no float. It runs every 2:30 minutes and checks for resistance, if it has resistance (water) it runs until the resistance is not present. I love it and have no problem with two weeks of not running the boat without battery problems. I think it draws 0.02 amps a day if I recall correctly, more if there is water, which I had a leaky shaft seal and needed it to keep from sinking in the slip.

Not to get side tracked, but when I installed my battery isolator, I used genuinedealz.com for custom cable lengths with terminals of my choice with heatshrink installed. They were quick, accurate, and very reasonable and have a large selection of tinned material...I'd definitely buy from them again.

Update:
Since I tend to wakeboard in the morning and surf in the afternoons, and tend to weigh the boat fairly severely, I actually left the factory bilge pumps in the engine compartment and just in front of the fuel tank. I added three extra automatic/float style bilge pumps 2000 gph in each of he V-drive areas, in the recession right in front of the transom, as well as one in the center locker area. I ended up wiring a separate fuse panel for the pumps and wired them directly to one of the accessory batteries. Have not had any problems with the battery drain, and they do their job very well (always interesting to see your boat dumping some water while you are surfing behind it). I typically do not take on much water while I am driving or pulling others, but the same cannot be said for some of my friends who pull me. Such is life
