Hello all. A female friend of mine has a 2005 sv211. My question is, does this boat have the high temp shut down or limp mode? like when the impellor goes out and the engine overheats does it keep the rpms from going to high to prevent damage? The reason I am asking is on three occasions now, while on the water-she noticed smoke and a strong smell of burning wires. We couldnt tell if the smoke was from the front or rear of boat as it seemed to come from throught the boat. The engine ran fine at all speeds and no engine lights were on. Note that each time this happend she had her stereo cranked full blast. I think it is something in the stereo system but today a stereo shop told her it was the impellor?? I own a mastercraft x star and when it goes out the boat goes into limp mode and you can only idle. Also I have never had any smoke at all when the impellor goes bad? Today was the third time this happened and each time has been a few weeks apart(another reason I think the impellor is not to blame) Anyone have thoughts??? Thanks

i would say yes i has the sensors unless someone removed them. what did the digital and analog temps read? i would say don't take it out again until it's been inspected. it could be a blown fuse on the stereo, but i've never actually experienced that situation. very quick thing to do to check the impeller. it's a 30ish dollar part so easy fix. i'd take it to a dealer regardless.

Let me get this right, the stereo shop told her that smoke and the smell of burning wires is do to a bad impeller? I agree that it makes sense to replace the impeller as it is probably due and its pretty easy but I will be amazed if that is related to your smoke problem. If she was rocking the stereo every time this happened, then I agree with you that this is a good place to start. I would play the stereo pretty hard and check the temps of the equipment and wires every few minutes to see if you can locate the problem.
Overheating wires really concern me. I would make sure she has a fire extinguisher and a plan if a fire starts. The first thing I would do is turn off the engine and master switch to kill the power if it catches on fire.

I'd definitely track this down before using the boat...burning smell and smoke doesn't sit well.
For the stereo, I'd first look at the wiring to the amps to see if it is sized properly and to see that the connections are all in good shape. That's pretty easy to do. After that, you can try to recreate the situation and measure temps at the wires and amps....could be one of the amps is bad, though any time I've had amp heat problems, they simply shut down.
For the impeller, Nautiques use a strainer in the raw-water intake that is often (in my experience) a problem because it can suck air if the seal isn't perfect. So, I'd check the o-ring on the strainer and inspect and replace the impeller. If the engine is starved of cooling water, the hoses from the exhaust manifold to the muffler will become soft, very hot to touch, and will begin to collapse on themselves. If you want to test a bit before removing and replacing stuff, you can drop the boat in the water and see if you get a drip from the strainer...that's a sign that it is sucking some air--and it doesn't take much. Personally, I'd just replace the strainer o-ring and impeller w/o testing.Previous boats:
