stereo power wire on 03 SANTE 210

ok, not sure if I have a problem or just bad luck, bought my boat in april, needed a new head unit, borrowed one from a friend and put it in, worked for a couple of weeks and then while idling through the no wake to the lake it just shut off, power was on all the way to the unit but unit was dead, so 2.5 months ago i order a brand new clarion m309 and put it in, been working fine until the last time i took it out, just put the boat and silence, it just simply cut off and that was it, dead again, so has anyone else with a 2002-2004 sante 210 had a similar problem? if so how did you remedy it? i'm hoping it's just bad luck on my part

might be a low voltage issue? The dashes of these boats are notorious for having low voltage. If you are running your speakers off the deck you may be overloading the deck due to low voltage.

showing 24-26 volts with both of the batteries turned on, shouldn't that be enough power

24 Volts?
These decks I think are only for 12v applications. Similarly when running dual batteries mine are in parallel configuration with 12v present (13.2 +/- volts max). The batteries should be in parallel (12v) and not in series (24v). I haven’t heard of a ski boat with a 24v set-up. From the M309 manual I found online states “Power Supply Voltage: 14.4 V DC (10.8 to 15.6 V allowable)”
So maybe 24v is why it is frying.

my boat has dual batteries and the two cut off switches for them, should both be on? this is supposedly a factory setup, anyone have the wiring diagram for a dual battery with the two red switches for a 2003 sante? i am only supposed to be running one of them at a time with the other as a spare?

edit -- just read up on the manual from nautique's site that should operate only one at a time but it didn't mention that it would raise the voltage, simple fix i'll just turn on of them off, can't believe i didn't even think about it

Based on if you have both switched ON and have 24 volts it sounds like you may have one of the batteries hooked up in reverse from the other. I am not familiar with the 2003 stock setup, but I would check to make sure both batteries are hooked up identical (in parallel with a 12v result).

You need to do some investigating on the battery wiring. My '03 came factory with 2 switches and 2 batteries and I have always run with both switches on at 12VDC. The switches are connected so that either battery is isolated from the electrical system, but everything in the electrical system should still power up. There are aluminum bars on the bottom side of the switches that make this connection. Think Perko Off, 1, 2, or 1+2 battery switch, this just takes 2 switches to do the same thing.

Your boat should olny have 11-14VDC no matter how many batteries are on. Something has either shorted together or been miswired to make a series connection. If this were the case I would think you would see other strange electrical issues or things buring out.
