2003 SAN perfect pass paddle wheel replacement

How difficult is it to replace the paddle wheel on a 2003 SAN V-drive? What all needs to be removed to access the paddle wheel, which looks to be on the port side near the transmission. Could be a tough spot to gain access. Any tips would be helpful.

    Thanks,
    Matt

I had to re-seat the paddle wheel last year on my 03 SAN and it wasn't that bad to get to. I have a bit of an advantage in that I removed my hard tanks and replaced them with bags, so I can take them out to get better access.

Remove the rear bench seat and you should have plenty of room to get to the paddle wheel. You may be able to get to it without removing the bench, but it will be easier to get to and see with the seat removed. Take note of the direction the arrow is pointing (should be towards the bow) because the paddle wheel section can key into the mount at different angles. It can be installed incorrectly and not be parallel with the way the water runs over the hull making it read incorrectly.

Thanks core-rider! I'll be taking this on tonight. I confimed last night that two of the 4 paddles on the paddle wheel have broken off. Wasn't aware of the keying alignment. I'll keep an eye out for that.

Definitely make sure that you keep the alignment. If you don't your speed wont read correctly or you will continue to break the wheel. I would look into getting the GPS upgrade. I did and love it.

I need to replace my wheel also. How much should I expect to pay and where is a good place to get one from.?

              Direct to PP

I went direct to PP. I had bent the paddle wheel axle. They sent me a new wheel and axle. Really easy to change in a SN. If I remember there was a cotter pin then just unscrewed the retainer ring and pulled straight up.
