    '98 Air Nautique Weighting...

I have a '98 Air/Sport with the factory ballast tanks. I am wondering what weight distributions would give me a nice big & poppy wake? When I really load the boat down, I have trouble keeping it on plane at wake speeds.

I have searched around here and found some amazing info on permanent installs, through hulls w/ pumps..., but I am not looking for anything permanent. Just wondering where & how much weight I should be using to get a great wake and be able to keep my speed. (I have an old school RPM based perfect pass).

    Thanks!

you have to play with the weight to get the wake the way you want it. I have a 98 ski nautique and we put 750 sacs on both sides of the engine and a 550 across the back. Throws a good wake but you have to be careful with that much weight.Take your time when you pick up the skier so the waves don't come over the font of the boat.

Generally, 60% in the back, 40% in the front. I ran with 800 in the rear and about 600 between the bow and ski locker this weekend and had a great clean and poppy wake with no problem planing. For a little more pop, lose a little of the bow weight (although this may give you a smaller sweet spot). For a little rampier, up the bow weight.

In my experience the sport/air direct drive models with that hull really like weight in the stern. 80% rear 20% bow. The wake will be really mellow if you try to do 60/40% mix. I fill stock tanks, put a fat sac with about 500lbs in ski locker, and then a ski locker sac in between rear seat and engine cover with another 400lbs. With no weight in the front other than driver and spotter that works well. Boat takes a while to plain and doesn't hold speed very well but the wake is as nice as I have gotten it. If there are other people in the boat I try to throw a couple of people on the rear seat and a couple in the bow.

I would start with around 1500lbs total ballast with 70 in rear and 30 in bow and then move people. Also play with speed in between 21 and 23 mph. hope this helps
