    Engine Backfiring or Other Noise

I have a 2007 236 with the PCM 6.0. Engine has 91 hours on it and has been serviced at 25 hours and at 56 hours. It has run fine all Summer long (about 40 hours) and runs fine right now until I give it full throttle. It will make a loud popping / backfiring noise. Doesn't sound like pinging when driving a car. I can run the engine up and down the rpm range and it runs great but if I lay the hammer down it will make the popping / backfiring noise. It has never done this before until this Saturday. On Saturday, I put in 35 gallons of gas from a place I don't normally buy gas. Noise was much more prevalent on Saturday. Sunday, I ran the boat across the lake a few times to try and run the gas out. I am down to 1/4 tank of gas and popping / backfiring noise still occurs but not nearly as frequent as Saturday.

Do you think this is a fuel issue or a mechanical issue? I will be with the boat again this upcoming weekend with guests. I am hopeful it is a fuel issue and when I fill it up with gas from a known supplier, I won't have the problem. Just wanted to see what you guys thought and make sure I might not be causing any further damage if it is an engine issue.
