Drilling in windshield bracket

I purchase a set of the quick release brackets for my bimini top and the holes are spaced different from the original brackets. Can I drill a hole in the middle of the windshield bracket? Is there a risk of hitting the windshield and cracking it? Any suggestions.

I drilled the frame of my windshield to fit my bimini brackets. No real issue. The frame is an aluminium extrusion and the screws just fit into the outer part of the extrusion which is only a 2-3 mm thick. Drill slowly and don't use screws that are excessively long.

Sounds like you already have holes nearby from the previous mounts. I would use one of the existing holes plus one new one.
