    A hard to describe problem

I really don't know how to describe the issue I have had a few times, but here is a try. After wakesurfing for a bit (loaded pretty heavy), my boat (2002 SAN) has started making a noise like the prop or propshaft has started to wobble. This noise is only while at neutral or low speeds, when I get going about 15 or so the noise stops. Also, at the same time the noise starts, the boat stops accelerating around 8 mph, even with the throttle all the way pegged. At this point I turn it off for about 5 minutes, allow the bilge to empty, empty the ballasts, and the problem improves (still makes the sound, but picks up speed). After I run for about ten minutes at about 30 mph, the problem is gone for the rest of the day. Any ideas? I will say that the bilge does get some water in it from rollers over the bow or stern, especially when my gf drives while I am surfing. COuld water in the bilge be getting the belts wet, etc which could attribute to the sound, acceleration, etc?

My only guess is that you are getting so much water in your bilge it is hitting the knock sensor and sending the boat into limp mode. This happens to me a couple times per year, but draining the bilge fixes the problem immediately. It doesn't take more than the water losing contact to stop limping.
Try plugging your vent with a piece of neoprene like an old mouse pad when surfing. It at least stops the bulk of the water getting in. Also, IIRC the 2002 has the fuel vent in the rear, so you need to watch that.

That makes a ton of sense. Thank you much. I actually moved the vent all the way to the side of the windshield because I had a water in the fuel issue. I may see if I can get some neoprene to close off the vents in the back of the boat, or just teach the gf how to drive with surf weight in the boat. Also going to put a 2000 gph bilge pump in the engine compartment as soon as I find enough time. Any large block of free time I have I want to be using the boat not fixing it . Plus, at 112 degrees or hotter out here in az it is hard to do anything but be on the lake, drinking a beer
