Hey guys, new to the forum/site (love it!) but lookin for some help with my '98 nauti. I have the PCM 351 H.O. (carburated) and it is misfiring badly and running like s*#%!
So when the problem first started I could see and hear an electrical "pop" @ the #3 cylinder where the plug or wire was arching to the engine block. I looked to the distributor first and found the rotor to be burned/melted and in pretty bad shape. I replaced the cap and the rotor and pulled all of the plugs and cleaned and gapped them. I am still experiencing the problem however and can still see and hear the short at the #3 cylinder plug (as well as the enging mis-firing badly).
I just picked up a new plug and wire to replace the #3's and see if that helps but I cannot see any reason why they would need to be (ie. no cracks in the ceramic jacket on the plug or cracks/scrapes etc. in the plug wire).
Does anybody have any other troubleshooting ideas for me? I have checked all the grounds that I can think of and they are all tight and clean? Could this be a bad distributor? Please help!
