I have a 1994 SNOB with a carbureted PCM 351, the engine also has EMS. I’ve got just under 800 hours on the boat. Over the last 100 hours or so I’ve noticed the tach will bounce around wildly, often moving as much as 200 rpms even though the throttle is stationary and, based on sound, the engine doesn’t change speed.
Any thoughts on what might be going on here?
Additionally, I recently rebuilt the carburetor and the engine seems to be running at very high rpms, although based on the tach issue I mentioned above I’m not positive. Listening to the engine and based on the “hit” that occurs when I engage the transmission it certainly seems to be revving pretty high.
Again any thoughts on what I should start looking at?
