Would replacing aerator pump with simer require relays?

I'm going to replace my aerator fill pumps on my 03' rear tanks with simer pumps, does anybody know if the power to the existing aerator pumps are relayed or would I have to interface a relay in line with the power? I'm tired of the helm valves getting stuck closed and/or open and I figure, I'd rather wait to fill than continually have check the tanks when I don't want them to fill.

I'm not sure, but I think that you are either going to have to re-wire with heavier gauge wire or use relays. Impeller pumps can have a 20 amp draw, which is much more current that aerator pumps. I think I used 10 gauge wire on my Johnsons. Whatever I used, it was the biggest wire that I could find quick connects for (which I needed for my switches). I also added in 25 amp blade fuses and a fuse block for my 3 pumps.

I did the same as chexi. I added a separate fuse block with 20 amp blade fuses and ran 12 gauge (or 14) to the switches. They work great, although I wish I could figure out how to determine if the bags are empty other than trying to hear a difference in the sound of the pump, or actually looking. tough to hear over the music, engine and people, as wel as tough to rearrange the boat to look
