    Hose Leak

    PCE 330 Excaliber

I have a water leak where the 1 1/4 hose connects to the water pump outlet. I removed the hose and cut off about an inch that was slightly mushroomed. I put it back on, but it's still leaking. I noticed I didn’t get a clean cut because there is a wire running through the hose and that may be the issue. Any suggestions on how to get a clean cut when cutting this hose?

Ok, I decided to use my chop saw with a metal blade and got a great cut. The pump is still leaking and i now think the Sherwood water pump is leaking between the belt and the body. Anyone know if the pump can be rebuilt and who would do it? I rather not pay $350 for a hole new pump.

Never mind, after looking around I have decided a rebuild isn’t worth the time and money. A new pump is $300 so I may just let it drip until it goes out.

The pump may "go out" when you are in the middle of a lake or somewhere far away from your trailer with several people on your boat. preventative maintenance is better than being stuck on the lake.

^^ agreed ^^ replace or rebuild now. When they go out for good, you aren't going anywhere without help.

            Where is the pump leaking

If its leaking through the shaft then its a major rebuild/replacement. If it is leaking from the plate a simple gasket swap or O ring swap might stop the leak.

I'm still not 100% positive it's leaking through the shaft. It's hard to tell where the slow leak is coming from when it's mounted down in the bilge. It looks like a small area of the outlet’s lip is worn flat. Maybe that is keeping the hose from getting a good seal. I used some 400 sandpaper to clean up the area. I also cleaned both sides of the plate just in case it's passing the new gasket. I will give it one more try tomorrow.

I agree preventive maintenance is important, but it is a very slow drip on a low hour pump that works fine. If it is leaking from the shaft, the weep hole should protect the bearing. The pump could easily work years without an issue. I almost think I'm being too picky because many people wouldn’t even notice a drip that small.
