    routine/preventive maintenance

I just bought a 2002 Pro Air Nautique a couple months ago. This is my first boat and I'm wondering what routine & preventive maintenance experienced boaters recommend. I use the boat a few hours a week on average. Thanks.

Where to begin. Do you have any past maintenance records? Do you have owners manuals? GM or Ford engine?

First order of business is when was the raw water impeller changed? Replace at least every 2 seasons.

Engine oil/filter change. Same for transmission. Lube steering cable, rudder shaft.

A biggie is engine prop shaft alignment, the transmission flange and prop shaft flange should be flush to .003 inch. My Nautique came with a PCM owners manual that explains it in detail. PCM (pleasurecraft.com) has manuals online for 2003 and up. The 03 version should do for your 02 model if you have a GM V8. Also need to check prop shaft seal for leakage rate, a few drops a minute underway for conventional seal, dripless should be dripless.

Plugs and wires, distributor and rotor change. Again, if no maintenance records, all of these need to be done.

How about the trailer. Wheel bearings, brakes need maint. too.

Thanks for getting me started. I do have the owner's manual and some past maintenance records. The engine is a Ford.

The last oil change and impeller record I have is Aug '09. I have a record that the shaft packing was repacked and the strut was resealed in Aug '09 as well (I'm not sure what that means).

The trailer was serviced in June.

I appreciate any advice since I'm a new owner and inexperienced in boat maintenance in general. Thanks!
