Install of a dripless packing gland

How much work is it to replace a normal packing seal (propshaft) for a dripless packing seal in a 230? I understand these seals can be bought as a packet from the Nautique dealer, but is it necessary to remove the engine or can the shaft be removed alone?

    Thanks

You do not need to remove the engine. you will have to remove the propeller, the rudder, and the propeller shaft.
Once the propeller shaft is out of the boat, remove the old packing nut, and then follow the instructions on installing the drip-less packing system.

Access to the flange on the propeller shaft that mates with the flange on the transmission may be difficult.
