    GT-40 Hard to Start

I have a '95 SN w/GT-40 and have had issues starting it the last few times out. It cranks fine and fires for a second, about enough to turn it over once or twice, then dies. Does this repeatedly. The last 2 times out it continued like this until the battery died, then had to jump it. Yesterday took at least 15 minutes of this until it started. Once it starts and stays running it's fine, like nothing's wrong. Both fuel pumps have been changed out in the last 2 years. Any ideas?
    Thanks

check your tether cord, possibly going bad.

It's not the tether cord. I tried messing with that, and when it's off it won't fire at all. The problem I'm having is that the engine will actually fire just enough to turn the motor over 1 or 2 times then dies. Keeps doing this until finally for some reason it fires up and stays running. Then it runs like there's no problem at all the rest of the day.

        Hey Jed,
Kinda cold in Missoula This time of year! I grew up in Bigfork, Moved out of the Flathead valley 25 years ago to Florida. Dont miss the cold one bit!

As far as your starting condition Make sure your battery cables are clean and tight, Check the cable ends by pulling on the wire at the battery conectors. Some of them were not Crimped so good and may have corroded and are ready to pull out. Next check the connections at your key switch. Their is also a fuse in line of the red Wire as it comes out of the battery box check that circut for corrosion and loose connection. Check all grounds from the battery to the motor.
Also if their is a Starter up grade to the newer starter make sure the yellow push on connector is clean and tight as also any other wires to the starter and Relay. Check the ten pin plug connector both under your dash and at the motor and make sure it is pushed up and clean. If their is a saftey lanyard check that complete circut for poor connections that could cause intermitent start. Also if You can check your Fuel pressure if you are running EFI.

          Check your fuel pressure.
39 PSI plus or minus 3 at the fuel rail.

The low pressure pump 5 to 6 PSI, and must flow a quart in 15 seconds.

Here is how to check it:

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I winterized it this past weekend so I'll have to wait until March to see if any of those items fixed it. I'm really hoping it's not one of the fuel pumps since I've replaced both in the past 2 years.

              hard to start.

              Sounds like a electrical issue.

Had the same issue with mine, could take up to 15min before it would start. ended up changing the start relay, and cleaning the connections on the battery and the starter motor.

              Starts every time now.
