From what I understand, Gycol - either propylene or ethylene, is corrosive by nature. So to make it function, the manufacturers add corrosion inhibitors. The inhibitors eventually get used up doing their job. That is why you need to change anti-freeze in a car periodically.

A boat engine isn't going to corrode much over the winter if you use fresh antifreeze, either kind. I used pink this year - in years past I captured the green stuff & reused it several times.

The engine will corrode more in the summer with straight water (esp. salt water!) than it will in storage with AF.

I have always stored my boat dry. I live in central/north British Columbia where it can be -30 C for a week on end. I dont trust having any liquid in the engine when it can be colder outside than is written on the bottle of AF.

One thing I do that I have not seen mentioned is to put a squirt of dish soap on the impellar to keep it lubricated through the winter and prior to spring start up.
