    Season End Oil Change

Boat is winterized and stored in an unheated garage. I've removed the oil. Question is: Is it better to fill pan with fresh oil and let it sit over the winter, or just fill it in the Spring before taking it out so that the oil does not sit over the winter and potentially get water in it from condensation, etc.

Do a complete oil change prior to storage, oil & filter. I would not ever store an engine without fresh oil in it. If you were to get moisture on the surfaces without oil on them they would rust.

I would recommend putting oil back in, and running the engine for at least 5 minutes. This allows the fresh oil to circulate through the engine. If you do not run the engine after putting new oil in, you are leaving the old contaminated oil in the oil galleys, in the bearings, and all over the inside of the engine.

Never mind the possible damage that might occur, if next spring you start the engine, and after a minute or two, you notice the oil pressure is at zero, and the check engine light is on.

Yes, there will be some condensation inside the engine. The fresh oil will be able to counteract that much better than the old oil can. Besides, putting oil back in means less air in the crankcase, and that will reduce the amount of air exchanged in and of the engine, and reduce the condensation, over an empty crankcase.

Given your boat is winterized and hence not readily runnable without having to rewinterize, just fill the new oil filter directly with a 1/2 qt or so before threading it on and the remainder in the pan. That way the oil hits the cylinders faster when you fire her up in the spring.

Not running the engine still leaves old contaminated oil sitting on your bearings in side the engine.
Bare minimum, after putting new oil in, if you do not want to deal with draining the cooling system again, start the engine and run it for about 30 seconds without the raw water pump hooked up. That will flush the old oil away from the bearings.
You should refog the engine cylinders after doing this.
