[QUOTE=SkiTower;151766][QUOTE=horkn;151760]but they would have to be compatible with existing engines.

That's the problem, they're not. There's a reason companies are making "flex fuel" systems, to accept this stuff. Tough luck for the rest of us with older cars.
E10 is compatible with all existing normal gasoline motors. Now if they go to e20 like it sounds like is going to happen, then us old boat, 2 stroke and "old tech" motors will have issues if e20 is the only option.

Modern automobile engines have O2 sensors. They can automatically adjust the fuel to air ratio to accommodate different fuels like E-10. The 10% of alcohol in E-10 just makes the injectors stay open a slight bit of time longer than they would running 100% gasoline through the engine.

I believe the reason I have been getting away with running E-10 in my boat, (1997 Ski Nautique, GT-40, 2308 hours) is that there is enough of a tolerance, or "safety margin" in the metering of the fuel that the slightly leaner condition caused by running the E-10 that my boat is still within acceptable limits. E-20 may go beyond those limits.

Where I live in Oregon, we do not have the combination of high humidity, and high temperatures. I also fill my gas tank at the end of the season, and use twice the normal amount of Sta-Bil in the fuel.

I have not have any problems running E-10 in my boat. The only real thing I have noticed is this. When I drain the FCC to check for dirt, and water, I find no water.

Daniel, I've been running E10 in my carbed 78 351W PCM since I bought it about 9 years ago. Before that it was way up north where E10 was not as common back then, and even if it had run E10 before I bought it, it only had 200 hours on my 78 martinique when I bought it.

I've yet to see any issues even on an old tech carbed boat.

if it was a plugged injector it would misfire and not smell gassy, if was stuck open a fuel pressre gauge would drop soon as the ignition is off. fuel smell i would check engine temp not the gauge but the computer to different sensors. temp is used for fuel control along with throttle position and map sensor.
