    Seat/Skin Replacement in 1993 Ski

I've got new skins from Christine's for my 1993 Ski and they are perfect.

After taking the seat apart, I think I'm going to replace the wood as well. The foam looks good.

The foam is wrapped in a very thin plastic and then I think it's glued down to the wood. Is this the case? Does anyone know if there's anything special about this thin plastic used originally or can I just use regular thinner poly or something to wrap the foam in?

    Thanks!

Winter is starting to drag out here in Canada, but at least I have the time to get some stuff done on the boat.

Also, what the heck is the material used for the bottom of the observer seat? (in place of wood)

      seat base

Here is a link to a CCF thread I started when I had to replace the observer base on our SNOB. Seems like it was made of some sort of particle board which was falling apart and leaving a mess all over the boat.

I would say you could use something else to replace the plastic. It's intention is to keep water from getting into the foam. As long as you make sure the foam is sealed up you should be fine.

Just go to your local tool store like Home Depot and buy the disposable plastic drop cloth. Cut it to shape and tape it down. Its actually more for making it easier to install the new skin. It helps the new skin slide and stretch into place.

88mars2001- what did you end up using for a base in the end? just wood or did you find a composite base somewhere?
