Are they the original digital gauges or have they been replaced? It would probably be best if you posted up a pic. If they're the original gauges and they're inoperable and it has a GT40, good luck finding the actual hours. If you're really interested in the boat, comb through maintenance records to calculate a ballpark figure on the actual hours.

I am not 100% sure as my gauges had been replaced before I got my boat, but I believe those gauges show tenths of hours so there would be a decimal in there. Get a compression test done and check the overall condition of everything on the boat to get a good idea of how well it was taken care of. An 02 with only 85 hours did not get used much!

An '02 may have a GM engine or a Ford engine. If it has a GM engine, the engine computer also stores the hours. Have the dealer read the hours from the engine computer if you can.I own and operate Silver Cove Marine, which is an inboard boat restoration, service, and sales facility located in Mooresville, North Carolina. Yeah be careful when you put a lot of weight in it... The wake gets huge and will send you for a ride!!
Sounds like a good boat, that compression is perfect. Its the GT40 motor right? Pull out the dividers in the V-drive compartment, get a flashlight and check the bilge under the motor for any sort of oil leaks. You will be able to see oil pooled in the lowest part of the boat under the motor. (I have an oil leak in mine that I cannot figure out where its coming from. Ive pulled the motor and replaced the main seal, replaced bottom seal on v-drive as well and still have small amounts of oil in there)
