Ok for anyone who needs to rebuld there GT40 distrbutor it is VERY easy. The only problem with mine was the pickup (stator).

    1) take Dist. out of motor
    2) remove cap and rotor
    3) clamp dist in a bench vise
    4) with a small punch and hammer knock out the roll pin in the cam drive gear I had to heat up the gear only with a torch
    5) with a small punch and hammer knock out the roll pin in the spacer
    6) pull the shaft out the top of the dist.
    7) remove the 2)6mm bolts that hold the stator in place
    8) (mine didnt need the bushings replaced but they can be bought on line for a 1995 Ford Lightning)
    9) I bought the stator for a local autoparts store for a 1995 Ford Lightning w a 351 ($35)my old one fit VERY loosly on the center of the dist shaft and was walking all over the place I belive causing me problems(miss firing and crazy tach). The new one fit pretty tight I have to tap it on to the shaft with a dead blow hammer lightly. You can find the parts on line cheeper than I paid but I wanted it done now not later.
    10) Mine (dist)had corrosion all over it on the inside I cleaned it with a wire brush and sand paper.
    11) put oil down the center shaft and reassembled everything as described in this but I replaced the roll pins with new ones from the auto parts store ($2).
I already had a new cap and rotor from White Lake Marine I will test the boat hopefully this week if I can get out of the office one day.

I hope this helps someone else Thanks Airtool

Thank you Lvnspeed for posting this. Is it too late to get pictures?

Thanks for also giving it a searchable title.

I bet you say that to all the girls.

On the pictures, there is probably something similar on the web. I rebuilt the distributor for my 4.3z c1500 a few years ago. You can't actually buy the whole distrubutor from gm/delco. The sell the major parts and you assemble a new one. Some of my stuff was good but when I went to press one of the pieces on (can't remember) I accidently press one of the bushings all the way in and messed it up. I wasn't even replacing that bushing. I can't remember exactly...but I just bought the housing and then had an all new distributor. I saved all the old parts...why? ...I don't know.

PS the off-brand "new" replacement distributors were crappy and didn't even have all the regular guts inside. functioned the "same" but with differenct guts....I just couldn't do it.

I found pics of the rebuild and other good stuff on the web. Next big job is the injection spider in my 99 5.7L K1500 tahoe.

when you installed the disc I hope you noticed if it was keyed or not and that you paid attention to it's relationship to the rotor tip, if you didn't your going to have a very hard time getting the engine to run correctly as the ECU will not recieve the correct signal from the dist at the correct time it needs to fire the coil.

Yes I did pay attention to where it was located. Actually after seeing a new one I noticed that mine was suppose to look like what i thought was wear marks so i didnt replace it just cleaned it up.
