Q: nut material for raw water valve

I noticed my nut that holds the lever on the fresh water port's ball valve is missing. You know, where the cooling water comes in.

I can tell the size, but what material is the nut? is it stainless or brass and was it nylock?

Can someone with a 196/206/216 take a quick look at their nut for me?

Maybe they are the same on 210/xxxxxx etc. I'll also browse through the white lake site for pics.

I remember mine being stainless but there is no reason anything wont work except mild steel. The lever and the valve adapts with a rectangle so securing it tight to turn a lever is not an issue.

That's the one. Please don't go out or your way in such a hurry. Any time this week would be good. Your picture reminded me I've taken a similar picture...mainly to document the hose size. I'm going to find it and see if the dang nut was there in the pic. I think I would have noticed it missing before now. That also reminds me I'd like to figure a way to make a screened temporary plug for the bilge drain. Anything the rattles loose after a long day is going to work its way to the hole and fall onto the highway. I always seem to be missing screws...and NEVER finding them in the bilge.

PS - I hope you are enjoying your time off in H town.

TRDon - I was mainly just wanting to minimize the number of dissimilar materials. Thinking more about it though, I think the lever is zinc plated carbon steel not stainless. I'll check it with a magnet later. It would be best if the nut matched the shaft material.

          Airtool,
It is no problem, My storage is around the corner and I had to run by there to get some measurements for the new sacs. The nut looks like a SS nut, and I looked on the ballast valves also. 1/2" OD but didnt get any thread measurements or ID. It looks like standard SAE coarse thread.

For your screen... maybe cutting coarse screen material to exact size to be able to thread it all the way to the bottom, so as to clear the plug but seating in the thread? Just an idea

I am definitely enjoying time home, but have to go back next week

          Mike

maybe we can hook up for lunch before you go back. I live and work in katy but could travel in for lunch...especially if it is "business"

I checked the valve lever with a strong magnet and there is a small attraction. So the lever is probably a low cost SS with iron in it. I'm sure it is not zinc plated carbon. The shaft looks brass. I'll look for a brass or ss nylok nut so I won't come off again. I think it is 1/4" or 5/16" coarse.

Thanks for your help. You can PM for lunch and date you travel. I may also have a buddy that is shopping for a 210 or 211. He might benefit by talking to you about your 211.

I've got an idea on the strainer (patent pending
