1992 Ski Nautique is Overheating, Need Help

I just bought a 1992 Ski Nautique, took it out twice to San Vicente and went to go out this weekend and it overheated in the water. I think my water intake sucked up debree the other day b/c by the doc area it was like 2in. thick of run off, from the rain and then the other day my shower was leaking water out not pushing water out, leads me to think that something is clogging something. Also the the big hose that goes to the right side of the exhaust started smoking and just smelt like burnig rubber, obvisouly the hose was burning up. If anyone has any suggestiong please let me know, this sucks new baby is out of commision.

There are many possibilities. A common problem is the impeller burning out. This is responsible for drawing the water from the lake and into your engine. It will be located on the drivers side in the front corner. It is in the housing where the pulley is. If this is the culprit, you will also need to flush out the line that runs back towards the main intake in the hull. You also need to check your waterstrainer bowl to make sure there is an o-ring properly installed, make sure it isn't cracked, make sure it is clean and make sure it is tight. Also, check all of the hose connections and make sure they are snug.

If this doesn't solve it, let us know. There are a handful of good mechanics that visit this board often.

My 92 overheated last year. The culprit was Lime in the front of the engine cooling paths. Check the things listed above. Impellars are cheap. Check the strainer and the hose fittings too. Any air is going to create a problem. How hot is hot by the way? Could be that the guages are reading funny due to many glitches in this year boat. Mine always reads warmer on the gauge than the motor itself.
