Oil Extractors

So I finally got some time to mess with the new (used) boat. After a bit of hesitation I got the nerve to crack open the drains on the manifolds, engine block, and V-drive. Had i not done it and the temp went below freezing, I may have frozen 2 gallons of water inside the engine and never even got to use the boat. Thanks Skinautique for responding to my post on the 2002 SANTE.

So after looking everything over and reading the nautiquemanual and taking my time with things I wanna change out all the fluids just to be sure. Seems like the easiest way is to just get an oil extractor and do it up. Anyone have any opinions on good ones?? I have seen a couple, but one got bad reviews because it was fragile.

Also, anyone know where to get a 2002 Excalibur engine manual?? Or will the 2005 suffice just fine??

The one that I use is from Jabsco. Can't remember the model name but it is about $100. The 2005 manual will work. Some of the components have moved around on the engine but you should be able to figure it out. If not, you can contact PCM and see if they could get a manual to you.

I've used several of these types of devices, and this is by far the best one I've ever used. It's rock solid and easy to use. Besides...it has a cool name! :grin:

That is by far the worst one I've ever used. Broke after 2 uses, and extremely difficult to pump.

The one we used to use at the boat store was from Liquid Dynamics, it charges with an air compressor to create a vaccum, the small one holds 6 gallons of fluid. I have done 2 oil changes and a tranny fluid change before having to re-charge. Downside is that they are a little pricy, about $300, I have found several other uses for the unit on vehicles other than boats as well. Hope this helps.

I can second the Jabsco pump. I didn suck threw the oil fill like they recomend though. I took the Oil drain hose and connected the Jabsco hand pump to that threw the hull plug. It got all the oil out, After I was finished with the Jabsco I left the oil hose draining threw the hull plug for like 2 days into a container and hardley anyting came out. I pumped out the tranni the conventional way threw the dip stick,

TIP
When changing your Oil filter I took a plastic trash bag and opend it up and placed it in the bilge I took off the oil filter, any spilliage will drop into the trash bag and along with the filter,

I did the same thing when I changed the fuel filter in the bottom of canaster. Its a easy job all of it. Once you do it the first time you will be a pro. Also check all your Hose clamps and belts

You can also put the filter in the box for the new one. Works real well. For the fuel filter, I just put a nasty rag underneath it to catch any gas.

The Jabsco "Porta Quick" oil changer is the pump that I use. You will see it priced on the web as high as $275 but you should be able to find one for around $100

Thanks for the PCM manual, that is a huge one.

Here's another dumb question, but it's kind of important. I tried to get the big hose off the water circulation pump, but after loosening the clamps and tugging on the thing pretty hard, I came to the conclusion that these hoses might have some sealant on them that glues them in place. I got a similar result with the intake to the raw water pump, and kind of gave up not wanting to screw up the hoses. Are those things "glued" on there??

they aren't glued on there. They get really tight from the heat in them. Try a hose removal tool.

I definately appreciate all the help, it's these little things that keep me from being confident about doing the simple maintenance stuff. It's my first boat and I wanna keep it nice for a long long time.

you also can just find an old flat blade screwdriver and bend it over an inch from the end.
