Changing impeller on 2009 PCM Excalibur

I have been told it is very simple on the new engines. Do i need to remove the belt or anything
or what do I need to watch out for?? I was looking at the motor over the weekend & thought I would get some feed back before I tackled the job.

Maybe, just maybe one day I'll put this up as a stand-alone post in the how to:

15mm or adjustable wrench for the idler pully.
10mm socket with extension for the pump cover bolts. (see pic)

    1. Take the serp belt off. (If you can't figure out how to do this, stop and take your boat to the dealer.)
    2. Take the three cover bolts off - bolts stay with cover due to tiny o-rings.
    3. Carefully twist the pulley and slightly mis-align the pump as you pull it out and the impeller will come out with it. Otherwise the impeller stays in the cavity.
    4. Change out the four o-rings. One for the cover, three for the bolts. Some oil or soap as lube is handy but not required.
    5. Squirt some dish soap on the impeller and lather it up with a bit of water.
    6. Place the impeller on the shaft.
    7. Then line up the impeller with casing and "top" at the top. Then rotate the pulley in the running direction and the impeller will slip right in.
    8. Snug the three bolts.
    9. Torque to 9 ft-lbs
    10. Put the belt back on.
    11. Get 'er back in the water.

        Nice Job Tool!

I am lmao after reading however, having R&R'd mine at least a dozen times and never thought about using an extension through the pulley like that, always removed the pulley from the pump to access the bolts, probably only takes 30 seconds longer but I will never get those 6 minutes back, LOL.

Thanks for the help. I wanted to make sure before I got started. I hate left over parts.

LOL is right. The rub about removing the pulley bolts is, what happens if you drop it down in the bildge? I'm sure you will likely find it but what a PITA. and if you don't find it, those are probably difficult to procure....stainless steel metric allen capscrews!!

Also, It is easier to get to the pump bolts with a longer extension and lifting the bottom section of the clamshell. I feel sorry for those v-drive folks.

ALL = please click on to the "star" at the bottom of my post and add to my reputation. Thanks for all the kudos, etc. Maybe next time I'll have my son videograph me and I'll put up a video. This job takes less than 5 minutes which is longer than his attention span

Thanks and good idea. I'm due for a filter and still would like to look at the pre-filter. only few models have those. Maybe the screw to my filler cap chain is in there

On the big filter, Let me grab my 3 foot pipe wrench and a cheater bar!!! ....just kidding, mine is the new style with the t-screw.

                  A/T,

One more question. Why is the direction of the impeller important. I did mine this weekend and noticed that when I spun the pully as I was putting it back together the fins went in the right direction. doesn't look like it matters which direction the impeller goes in first.

The pump only works properly and lasts its lifetime when the fins are in the proper direction. There are previous posts that say the fins will reverse if the impeller is put in backwards. I'd prefer not to stress my fins like that. With a soapy lube, it is probably okay. Note my pic of the belt path, engine rotation, blue masking tape with the sharpied arrow, and comment about turning the pump in the direction of travel.

Good work on your part. You probably just saved yourself about 150 big ones. Maybe someone can post the labor charge for an impeller change.

Labor I was told by a local MC dealer was an hour, at $135. Not sure what my Nautique dealer cost would be, but I prefer to support anyway.

Does the impeller from nautiqueparts come with the big o ring and 3 smaller ones?

Gride - maxxwell is correct. Look at the parts picture. The o-rings are shipped sandwiched between the back card and the card shrink wrapped around the impeller. So when you see the impeller package on web sites, you don't see the o-rings.
