    GT40 FCC Canister Removal

Trying to pry off the FCC canister to change the filter and it will not even come close to budging.....

My oil filter wrench can take no more. Is a little penetrating oil worth a shot? Any other recommendations?

And to officially ask the dumb question....The canister has regular threads, right?

It's not uncommon for it to take two filter wrenches to get it to come loose. It must be a running joke at the PCM factory to see how tight they can get them. Keep trying....

Two wrenches like Brad said. They are a bear.

I've had luck with a Giant pair of Channel Lock pliars. I put one of those rubber kitchen grip things on there to keep from marking it up.

I just did mine last weekend. I used a pair of chain vise grips... these worked very well after several attempts with an oil filter wrench and no luck. Remember to apply grease to the threads before re-tightening so it wont be as hard next time.

I have never tried one, but I have heard a Strap Wrench will work too.

I used a strap wrench with two rubber kitchen grippers (think jar openers). The strap wrench took a 1/2" drive socket with a 16" piece of pipe for additional leverage. They are a son of a gun - just be careful to brace the bracket so it does not bend out of shape as well.

Strap wrench with 1/2 drive works well for me.

Also have had success leaving a strap wrench tight overnight, tying it off to something like the driver's seat or pylon with a ratchet strap. Came right off the next morning.
How 'bout a little reverse action...

Make sure you are turning it the right way. lay on the ground and look up at it from the bottom that is the way it turns.
