How many hours??? PCM Engine on 1991 Nautique

    Hey,

I'm new here. Help me out. I'm looking at a 1991 Ski Nautique. It has 1400 hrs on it. I'm going to get a survey done, but I'm used to aircraft engines where they have a recommended overhaul time on the engine.

I would like to know, with good care, how many hours would a PCM engine be good for? It seems like 1400 hrs is a lot for a ski boat, but it's a 1991.

    Thanks!

Sold my 93 last year with 1700. It ran ok but was getting tired. All depends on how it was used and cared for. With a good owner they can go for 2500 before a rebuild, I'm sure this will be a point of debate though.

We beat the crap out of ours. Drove it all over the place, always had tons of people or lots of ballast. Didn't use it like a normal ski boat. We had rebuilt or replaced just about everything besides the block over the years before we sold it.

Do a compression and a leak down test. that will tell you the real condition, but 1400 hours is not a ton.

PCM saya 2000 to 2400 hours to rebuild

When I bought my boat it had 1260 hours on it. I called PCM and they said that the engines should go 2000 to 2400 hours before requiring a rebuild. A compression test will give you a good idea of the engine health.

          2600 hours

My Ski nautique 196 from 2000 has approx 2600 hours on it, still runs like a champ.

I need to replace the low pressure fuel pump, for this season start, was getting tired end of last season. but that is it. a 100 dollar fix.

old waterski club boat, hence the many hours. and I use it for wakeboarding, so have and average of 500 kg ballast and 2-3 people in the boat.

engine has not been rebuild, but has been taken good care of all true its life.

Well, I just had my offer accepted!!!

PCM 240 HP Water tested the boat yesterday and it jumps out of the water on the holeshot. I had forgotten how hard these boats pull.

Had the compression checked and it's as follows...

            1. 130 psi
            2. 132
            3. 131
            4. 129
            5. 132
            6. 135
            7. 130
            8. 128

            Comments? It seems pretty good.

I am having the steering cable replaced: hard to turn. And changing the water pump impeller. All else is pretty good. It was winterized every year with the standard stuff done. It had the water pump changed every other year.

            Can't wait!
