impeller change problem on 1989 ski nautique

I have a 1989 ski nautique (351 ford engine) and I changed the impeller. I made bad mistake and did not check out the orientation of the hosing when I took it off. There is a screw on the side of the hosing where the impeller is located. Does that screw need to face the engine or does it face the away from the engine. I can'g believe that I did not pay attention when I took it off. Help Please

I wish I knew the a answer. Someone else will chime in. However, in the future, add a piece of tape on the topside of the impeller. That way, you will always know the orientation.

Does it look like this? The two hoses should be on the block side. I put the arrow on mine so I get it right every time.

Yes hoses to the block side. Start it on a hose and check the exhaust for water coming out.

              which engine rotation?

Wasn't 89 the first year of the 1:23.1 trans which came with a left hand engine? We need to determine which engine rotation you have before the question can be answered. SO 1:23.1 or a 1:1 Trans? look on your trans Id plate for that info.

                Engine rotation

My boat is in storage, so I cannot find out the trans id number today. I will check it out and post a reply soon. But, in the meantime if the rubber impeller turns clockwise, does that mean that it is a right hand engine (engine rotates right)Click image for larger version

ID:	361777. It still appears that the hoses would be located towards the engine block as stated earlier.

for a right hand engine (1:1 trans ) the hoses go to the outside, for a lefty (1.23:1 trans) the hoses will go to the engine side.

Mine is a 1989 with a 1.23 trans left rotation. If I remember right the engine will be mounted level with the 1.23 trans. The engine will be mounted with the trans side lower with the 1.1 trans.

I got the numbers off of my 89 ski nautique. The model number is PLD-PR-R12/PP and the trans is 1:23/1. So according to my manual, I have a left rotation engine. This means that my belts and pulleys rotate to the right. This means that the impeller will turn to the right (clockwise). So, mine should be setup exactly like Nautiquehunters where the hoses are located on the block side. Do you agree.

I really appreciate eveyones help. I learned alot about my nautique. The number one thing I learned was never remove a part from your Nautique until you have marked the orientation of the part

I thought I would add this tid bit of information. The nautique dealership where I bought my impeller told me the wrong information. If I would have listened to them, I would have put it on backwards..... Glad that I posted this question.... Thanks
