    1997 Nautique 196 GT-40 Propeller

    Hi

I need a new propeller for my 97 Ski Nautique 196 with GT-40 engine.

The old prop seems to be an OJ Legend with the following markings:

    5095
    7895
    OJ 13
    16 P CUP

I was wondering which model to look for if buying a used or new and what would be the transmission ration on my boat, direct drive or v drive, clockwise rotation...

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

If your boat is a 97 Ski Nautique with the GT40 EFI, then I believe you have a direct drive 1.23:1 transmission. The engine is standard (LH) rotation and the transmission (through gearing) turns the prop rotation the other direction. If viewed from the back of the boat the propeller should turn clockwise or RH rotation. I looked through a 97 Correct Craft catalog and saw that you do indeed have an OJ prop. If your current prop is not to beat up it may be able to be reworked by a reputable prop shop. If its not able to be reworked I would either see about an exact OJ replacement or look for a new or used ACME 422 prop. You may also want to check with a member here named TRBenj. TRBenj helped me with a new prop for my 90 model SN and has helped many others on this site as well as CCF. Another option would be to call Delta Propeller Company and speak to them about what propellers would fit your boat and give you the best performance. Plus, they are a site sponsor and give a discount to PN members. If I have given you any incorrect information, someone with more experience will correct my post shortly.

    Good luck!
    Matt

If you want to stick with the OJ, the replacement number is 428. this prop is a 13 X 15.5 with .90 cup 4 blade. Acme 422 also will work as a replacement propeller.

        Thanks Guys

What does the 16p cup means on my OJ as opposed to the .90 cup?

Also any thought on Stainless steel props as opposed to brass?

Can stainless steel be repair the same way brass can?

        Thanks

          I checked and ACME 422 is 422
          DIA 12.50 Pitch 15.500 Cup 0.105 BLD 4 Bore 1" ROT RH

          OJ 428 is 13 X 15.5 RC 1" 4-BLADE .090 CUP

The Acme 422 and OJ 428 are both good choices.

Your original prop is a 13x16 OJ. Either of the newer CNC props above will be a world of improvement over it.

Do not even consider a SS prop. There are very few to choose from for a reason- they run like crap compared to the CNC props, both in terms of performance and smoothness. You also probably dont want to be transmitting a hard hit from the prop through the driveline- and a NiBrAl prop will absorb more energy than a stainless one would.

Of course, if youre dead set on SS for some reason, let me know- Id be happy to sell you mine!

Thanks for the info. I am tryng to repair the damage prop but wanted to have all the info in case I do need to buy a new one. Someone metionned SS being better but I didn't even see one online.

I am more set for nibral but what SS do you have and how much would you sell it?

Do you recommend a place for nibral prop?

              Thanks

These are two OJ propellers I run on my boat. One has a little more cup than the other. The OJ propeller was OEM on my 1997 Ski Nautique. I bought the second OJ propeller for a spare. In my experience, OJ propellers run a little smoother after the first time they are repaired.

Acme propeller. (why do i always think of Roadrunner cartoons when I refer to Acme propellers?)

This is an Acme 422 propeller I also run on my boat, and this propeller is also used on a 1998 Ski Nautique I work on, that is owned by a church.

On my boat, (1997 Ski Nautique, GT-40 2308 hours) I prefer to use the OJ propeller, when it is in good shape, and is running smooth. I use my boat for show skiing, and the with the OJ propeller, the engine runs a little higher RPM, than with the Acme propeller. The boat will run up to about 5200-5300 RPM, without a load, and the REV limiter starts to kick in. But the boat pulls a little harder off the dock.

This propeller was actually on the 1998 Ski Nautique when I first started to take care of the boat. The Acme propeller pictured above is the spare propeller for this boat, but it may end up being the propeller put on the boat when I recommission the 1998 Ski Nautique foir the 2011 season.

Good choice, thats a great prop for that boat.

My SS prop is a 14x16 OJ 3-blade. I dont think a 14" would fit on a TSC hull anyways.

Tried the new prop this week end. It works great, RPM is about the same but top speed is 4 miles faster.

The boat is not slowing down as much when skiing on short rope.
