    Thanks for that.
So does the empty pump pump the water out of one of the holes in the side of the boat or does it pump it back out the bottom of the boat?

I wasn't sure about the trickle as you see some boats shooting ballast water out of the side of the hull.
I know they have different systems but just wanted to check.

    Thanks again

Had a play with the ballast at the weekend and found the one way valves for the overflows were seized shut. Freed them off and now working ok. Still not got the empty to work though. Pump running but no water coming out. Does anyone know if there is one of those one way valves in the empty line too and where it would be located?
Could I possibly have the pump wired up wrong way round? Do these pumps run the opposite way if wires swapped over? Where does the ballast empty to? Is it out the side of the hull or back through the bottom?

Also tested the gauges by shorting the signal wire to earth and the gauges move so now ordered some new senders. Slowly but surely getting there.

      Thanks again

Your system will empty back out the bottom of the boat, same as where it came in. If the gauges aren't working, it's not real easy to tell if the empty pump is doing its job or not. If you can hear the pump, and you also should be able to hear a gurgling sound as air enters the hull vent that is near the valves controls behind the driver seat -- if you can hear both of them chances are the pump is moving water back out.

Probably the only way you'll know for sure is to fill the tanks, then pull the boat out of the water. You can then turn on/off the empty pump and you should notice a discernible difference how quickly water exits the bottom.

        Good luck!

Thats brilliant thanks. Im glad it emptys out he bottom as i thought id got something totally wrong. Hopefully i will have the new senders this weekend so will know for sure whats happening with the system when its emptying. I can hear the gurgling from the vent hole so it must be emptyting properly.

To be honest because im in the uk and i have LPG tanks in the ballast compartments also, it creates a really good wake with my fat sac full in the centre locker so not really bothered about changing the system for a jabsco pump system. I only really want the system to work so i can fill whichever tank i want for surfing.

          Thanks again guys

As I had removed my ballast sender units to replace with new I thought I would test them out.
I got ny ohmeter and connected the leads to both wires of the sender. I then moved the float up and down and I am getting a resistance reading of 30ohm when float is at its highest and 242ohm when its at the lowest point.
I'm now thinking the senders are ok and I perhaps have a wiring issue. Does anyone know if these readings are right?
I'm going to connect the sender direct to the gauge on Friday and try again.
