    2002 gt-40 not starting

So...... first time taking the boat out on the water this year. All winter working on it, it fired right up, etc. Backing off the trailer, fired right up, drove about an hour with no problems. Shut if off, and when I went to turn it off, it tried to run over but no fire. tried both the key pad and the keyed ignition I placed in as a bypass. The radio was working fine, the gauges reading 12+ volts. Everytime I tried to start the ignition, the perfect pass restarted itself, the engine tried to kick over but would not. Tried to jump the battery, no go. After trying to kick over a few times smoke started coming out of the port side of the engine, so stopped that immediately. After pulling the boat, tried to restart, and the starter sounded like it was grinding and started to vibrate. I assume this is a starter issue, but at risk of sounding like a moron, is there anything else it could be?

If I order a new starter, does anyone know the model number, brand, etc?

    Samson speakers

Hey Eric- had a question about your new tower speakers. Do you like the Samson S7HD speakers? I was thinking about upgrading, I love the fact that they are quick release, it will make folding my tower way easier. How do they sound? Would 2 (1pr) be sufficient to hear while boarding, given the right amp?

    Thanks!

You just need a ford starter for a 351 technically. They are about $40 at Pep Boys. Maybe less. The marine ones are about $150-$200. The difference is the marine ones have a built in firewall so if they burn and short you do not electricute everyone, or something like that. I went the marine route on mine. My dad went the Ford route and saved a buck.

This is the one you need....

Food for thought as well. When my starter went out, my master solonoid was faulty as well. It is in the back of the motor. THe starter, alternator and battery all run through this thing. They are $10 at Napa. Anyway when my starter went out there was crack in my solonoid that was grounding out. I was popping circuits over and over and could not figure out why. Finally when the starter burned out, I decoded to replace all the points from the starter to the alternator, and found the culpret.

Those starters are for GM's, and won't work on a ford.
