I have an '87 with the 351 in it. My manual gives 6 or 10 degrees BTDC depending on which Prestolite cap you have. If you have a cap with clips for holding it down, timing needs to be set at 6 degrees BTDC. If you have the bolt down cap, it needs to be 10 degrees BTDC. Be aware you must set the timing at idle speed of 600 RPM. There is typically a label on the engine (valve cover, I think) that should confirm what the timing should be.1987 Ski Nautique 2001

I had mine set at the max for more power, but it started spark knocking ,i think i set mine at 8degrees or 6,i cant remember. But it does seem to run better now that i pulled the timing back down. This winter i am installing fuel injection and a bimini.

i have done it to my truck and my car, havent done it to my boat. You have to make sure the engine is good and hot,and make sure you keep it revved up.i think i ran a 20oz coke bottle size of water through my truck.i just sprayed it in the throttle body with one of those mist sparyer things,on my car i just unplugged a valcum line and let it suck it in
