    '93 SN Dash Conversion

I'm sick of the switch/fuze combo in the dash of my SN. Most are had to push/operate, and when they break they are over $20 to replace. I was thinking of switching the push switch circuit breaker combo over to a toggle/fuse box configuration this winter. Does anyone have experience with this or any thoughts as to why I shouldn't do it? The below pic is an example of the dash I'm talking about. Also there are small lights beside the switch that indicate if the switch is on, any thoughts on replacing these with something different?

i would be very interested in what you do for your project... I have a 1990 SN and can see some advantages to re-doing the dash.

sorry - no advice really but I think you are on the right track.. keep us up to date...

maybe take some pictures and put a how-to up on this site!

Once you pull out that panel, you'll see it's a huge mess of wires back there. I think it would be a complete PITA to do, for minimal increase in convenience. I'd also be concerned with reisistance and sensitivity of the circuts. Besides, I think the breakers are awesome!

        m3fan - right on

M3Fan is right on the money - if you haven't taken that dash off before - you might be in for a small surprise when you do.

there is more than just a couple of wires back there.

I found on my boat that the crimp connections were far less than perfect and had a couple that heated (main connection to ignition breaker) for one.

I have fixed a few but certainly haven't gotten the energy to replace them all.

I too like the circuit breakers - and I haven't had one fail on me so maybe I'm spoiled!

        just another 2 cents.

Yea, thats the other reason I want to do this project. I've spent several hours under there just trying to get various things to work, (cig lighter, pumps, depth finder). And Daryl got it write, less than perfect crimp connection, so I've spent just as much time re-wiring connections that I have broken. I'd just like to do it right once and for all and not have to worry about it again. But unlike you two, I really don't like the breakers, mine are so stiff, it feels like you're going to break the thing every time. I know it would take a while, but I don't care, my season is over, and it is nice to get out of the house durring the winter with something to do.
