    Speaker Install Question

I am adding a sub to my SN 200 OB and will need to cut a hole in the walk-through on the storage side. Can anyone tell me how the vinyl panel is attached to the fiberglass? My plan is to start by removing the carpet on the side of the storage locker to access the retaining nuts (if that is how it is done) but any advise would be appreciated.

Also, how do you reccomend dealing with the hole in the vinyl? I was planning on cutting the hole small then slicing the excess vinyl so I can fold it and glue it to the back side of the pannel. Again, any advise is appreciated.

Man, I hate cutting holes in my beautiful boat!

Uhm - you are cutting a hole in your boat to add a sub? Sounds like you are not intending to use a sub box, and you have an open air sub?

Personally I would go buy a differnt sub, build a box that matches the air requirements for the sub and stash it in the storage areay unter the seats.

A sub in a box that is built properly will also hit alot more cleanly than an open air sub would. Not to mention a sub rattling on a fiberglass wall over time cannot be a good idea.

If you are talking about adding a 2/3/4 way speaker on teh wall of the boat I would understand that, in which case you do need to cut the boat and the vinyl. Measure twice and cut once would be my advice.

My first plan was a sub and enclosure but after making many cardboard test boxes for different locations, I am simply not willing to give up the space. I do have an infinite baffle sub and am just looking to fill in the lows, not rock the lake.

Let me through a couple options out. Both will not require you to cut a whole in the fiberglass?

        1. Put the sub in the foot panel under the drivers seat. Popular place.
        2. Have a custom enclosure made for behind the drivers seat. This is in an old Sport Nautique DD, but you get the picture. We did a nice job on it also it was enclosed so sound great. Not a fan of the open air sub, even if they are designed to be open air.

Don't use press board get solid ply-wood.

Yeah the space sacrafice is a pain if you want subs. If you go the route of putting the sub in front of the drivers seat, I would advise going to Tap Plastic and getting the marine board for your wall and then carpet with your matching carpet. Plywood is fine however moisture will find its way there somehow and then the plywood will warp, or as we all know the particle board will fall apart.

This is where I actually store my amps. I made a rack and then housed the amps there as well as my second battery.

I went with two 8" subs and got truck speaker boxes because I did not want to lose all the space. My goal was not to rock the lake, however I wanted to make sure all of my music had great base balance, and the mission was accomplished. If you opt to make your boxes be sure you wrap them in fiberglass to water seal them. Water does not play well with speaker boxes and glue.

Just thought I would close the loop on this. The panel was held in place with those barbed plastic fasteners so it just pulls off.

I installed the 10" IB sub and it works great! I am very happy.
