Docking Lights

I have docking lights on my 211, but I am not sure they put out much light - I've never really stuck my head over the side while driving at night. What I do know thought is that not much light is shed in front of the boat when driving at night. I guess 2 assumtions can be made: 1) I don't know how to turn them on properly or 2) they don't put out much light.

How do you turn the docking lights on - do they come on with the rest of the exterior night driving lights?

Do they put out much actual Light?

They do not come on with the navigation lights. They come on when the courtesy light switch is held in for a second. Turning on the docking lights while driving across the lake is not a good idea. With water being so dark, there's really nothing to reflect the light back to your eye, so they're pretty useless in that regard. Also, you have the potential of messing up another boater's night vision if the lights shine on him. It is also illegal in most states to drive with that type of light on. Same thing with tower lights. Where docking lights become very handy is in docking situations, and when putting the boat on the trailer at night. I don't have docking lights, but my tower lights are great for things like that.

I have a question reguarding the docking lights, I added tower lights on my 2003 SANTE and was wanting to wire them into the docking light switch. Does anyone know which wires are for the docking lights?

I don't know which wires, but our tower lights are hooked up to the shower button so I know it can't be that hard to do. I personally don't like having extra switches and buttons on the boat--no buttons wasted.

If you were to wire the tower lights into the docking light switch, only use the wire as a trigger to a relay and then run a separate fused line from the battery to the lights. Then you won't be pulling any additional current from the docking lights.

Wakejunky is right, the breaker in the PME (breaker box) is not going to be able to run the tower lights.

If you look under the drivers helm area you will see 3 wires running to the bow of the boat down the gunnel. Yellow, gray, and black. The yellow is the docking light wire, gray is bow light, and the black is ground.

Use the yellow as the switch side of a relay and you can use the docking light button on the key pad.

yep,

that's how I did it, I spliced the yellow wire and used it to engage twin (fused) 30 amp relays. The relay's switch Battery power to the tower lights, real trick!. My tower lights have LED markers, which I similarly wired to the courtesy button, they are blue and match the inside lites, real , real trick!.

hsmunoz: do you have any pics of the blue marker lights? I have blue LED's in the cup holders and around the bow floor area and I'm interested in doing something on the tower too.

go to NVS1.com, and take a look at the Eurolights, those are the one's I got from Duane.
