No power to coil on 2000 SAN w/ python

Hoping someone out there can possibly help me out... Boat just died while idling and I'm getting no fire now... Checked the power at the coil and I'm getting no voltage on any of the four wires to the coil... Getting a tow now... It's a 502 python... Help!!!

    Please...

If I am not mistaken the coil gets its power from the ignition module. I would try that first. The actual module can be purchased at any auto parts store. Its not marine specific. As long as you take your old one with you they will be able to match it up. Unfortunately that is all I can offer for help. My python is the only chevy motor I have ever owned and worked on so I am still learning.

Thanks Brad... well I haven't had any time to mess with it anymore since I bought it back to the house. I checked the kill switch and it's good and powers the relay just in front of the motor but the other wire on the relay that I think should already have power that the relay connects the circuit on does not...

there are four wires going to the coil... I think the gray should be the tach sig and the brown the trigger wire for the coil to fire... the reddish pink wire is coming from the distributor with the brown and has no power and on the larger purple wire I think goes to the relay that the kill switch powers... I would think it should have power for sure... anyone know were I could possibly find a wiring diagram??? I hate chasing my tail like this blindly. I'm going to do what you suggested Brad and go ahead and pick up an ignition module, even if it's not it at least I will have a spare if it ever goes out down the road... I just hope it's not my ecm.

I guess I'll go out in the garage here in a minute and fumble around like a blind man... : (

He got it figured out. We messaged each other and got him fixed. He actually figured it out on his own, but it was ultimately related to the alternator that he had installed. It smoked his breaker and that was all it was. He now has a bigger breaker and wire for the bigger alt.

Sorry I've been going to reply back for a while now... life's been a little chaotic as of late.

Well Brad telling me the wiring harness that you get with the alt kit comes with a bigger breaker and heavier awg wire was the key to the dim light bulb going off in my head... my overzealousness to putting a high amp alt on the boat without researching it enough came back and bit me... when we were on the water I tried resetting the 50 amp breaker in front of the motor and it didn't push in like it was kicked... even though I wasn't thinking and when they are hot they sometimes have to cool off for a while before they will reset anyway... I started checking voltage on everything else I could think of, (just not the breaker sadly) made sure the wrist lanyard switch was good and had voltage coming out... but never thought for some reason, hey dummy check the circuit on the breaker and make sure it's good... at the house I took apart the front breaker box checked the circuit on the breakers in there, lol... made sure the relays were working there and checked voltage coming out of the box... scratched head and went inside...

Later after seeing Brad's message about the kit coming with a 100 amp breaker I thought about the fact I never for some stupid reason checked across the breaker in the back to make sure it was good... walked out to the boat and tried to push the reset again... no click like it was reset... checked for voltage and nothing there... jumped across and voila, everything was good... one bad breaker got the best of me... guess the high amp alt toasted it... now I'm happy it was simple and an easy fix but I'm a little dissapointed in myself... lol...

The kit comes with a 6 awg wire so naturally I went and put a 4 awg on for good measure... : ) with a 100 amp breaker. So to anyone that reads this that is wanting a high output alt, all you need is the alt and a little bit of at least 6 awg wire and a 100 amp breaker... bypass the factory 50 amp breaker and run it straight from the alt to the starter wire or the batteries and your good to go... and you can save a bit of cash over purchasing the kit.

Thanks to Brad and Mike for all your help... great guys!

Now can we pretend this never happened?

I do not remember mine coming with a 100A breaker. My brother did the install for me. I need to look at that.

Glad you are up and running, my Python brethren.

                  WS,

It is an inline breaker. It's there you just don't see it. Skidim sells the replacement wire and breaker if you ever pop one, but highly unlikely.
