    2003 Excalibur 330 Overheating

I have a 2003 Super Air 210 with an Excalibur 330 in it. I am just getting it in the water this season - I am noticing that the temperature is staying at 175+.

I have replaced the impeller and checked the strainer to make sure it is tight - I have also tightened all of the ring clamps.

Any ideas on what it might be?

    Thanks

    Peter

Maybe this is too simple, but it's possibly your thermostat.

The thermostat is next on the list - anyone have any instructions on how to replace it?

It's really easy. The PCM manual is on the reference page of correctcraftfan.com, or do a search on PN.

Did you ever or has anyone ever dont the water pump recall on your boat. Same thing happened to me last year and I found out there was a recall. The local dealer worked it out with PCM for the part and just gave it to me to install.

I've got the same year boat and the tape on the barb going in the strainer had worn out on mine and was sucking air. Mainly due to pulling the hose on and off to hook up garden hose on mine. They should make those strainers with out so many parts.

Check to make sure the black o-ring that seals the strainer is there and properly seated. Mine gathered once after screwing the cannister back on and caused enough air to pull and into the strainer to loose water flow.

Did you read my post? Dont start throwing parts at it before you figure that out. If that recall hasnt been done, that is very likely the problem.

He could just pop out his thermostat and drop it in a pot of water on the stove to see if it'll open? It's such a quick and easy test/fix, that I'd think it's worth trying, while waiting for the service appointment date for the recall.

Very good point. I hat those hose fittings. I'd like to just cement them in place but it is a bear to get the hose off when you need to so I usually undo the clamp and turn the fitting with the hose on.

Furthermore, the mfg of those hose fittings recommends paste on the threads and NOT tape. IIRC, the paste should be non-teflon. I'd have to go look.

Anyway, the design is poor. Brass (expensive) fittings might be the answer.

I also spoke with a guy at White Lake today who suggested I look for old impeller parts caught in the system. While i am doing that I will drop the thermostat in the spaghetti pot and see if it opens.

And I will check on a water pump recall....

Thanks for all the ideas - greatly appreciated!

If you look at the water pump, the original one will be painted black with the engine. When I got my new one, it was not painted and it was all brass. I cant say they will all be like that, meaning the dealer may have sprayed it before install but I doubt it. It could be a quick easy check.

I have replaced the thermostat and the impeller...now it is overheating when at idle and cooling down to 160 when the boat is moving.

I have checked the water intake and the impeller - everything looks fine...

No sign of any old impeller parts when I changed the thermostat...

Very frustrating - looking like I will have to make the 3 hour drive to the dealer....
