    Ski Nautique gt40 backfire.

    Hi guys

A friend of mine went to look at a 2004 ski Nautique with a gt40 engine. Ok this is what he told me was, the boat was put in the water and it started perfect. When they put it in gear to move off it backfired. It backfired every time they put it in gear to move, but when it was in neutral it reved up perfectly with no bother at all. What could be the cause of this backfire when put in gear to drive?

I thought 2002 was the last year of the GT40...maybe only for V-Drives?

I think it was a gt40. I say this because another friend used to sell Nautiques and this is a boat that he sold a few years back and he said that was the engine in it. But even if it's not a gt40 what could the problem be.

2004 had to be a GM product. Start with the fuel pressure

Did someone mess with the distributor and whack out the timing? It should never need to be changed, but if someone put a different disty in there, it is possible.
