How is the belt tensioner supposed to loosen the belt

OK either I am a dummy, or my tensioner has never worked correctly:

In loosening (counter clockwise) the bolt in the center of the idler tension pulley, nothing moves, the belt stays tight.
I end up having to take the bolt completely out and due to the tension the threads are getting stripped.

Are you supposed to turn the bolt clock wise?

Any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong or is the tensioner screwed up?

THANKS FOR ANYONE'S HELP, THE PCM MANUAL IS WORTHLESS!!!

Install te bolt and hand tighten. Next, push your ratchet some and the pulley will move towards the center.

with the bolt installed put a ratchet on the bolt 5/8 or 15mm and turn clockwise, the tensioner will move to the right loosening the belt.

Don't know why you are having such a problem. Iceman is right: 15mm socket, turn clockwise and hole pulley assembly should rotate clockwise to relieve tension. I never have to remove the bolt.

His problem is he is turning the thing the wrong way.
As noted above, turn clockwise & you'll have no problems.
