What's the importance of the dimpled/textured finish of an ACME prop? When getting one refinished, is it possible/necessary to have them redone? My brother just had one repaired, and the refinished parts are now smooth, and I'm just wondering if that matters? Knock on wood, I've yet to ding a prop in my years, so I'm a nubee at prop repair.

The grooves in the blades are the machine tool marks left behind during the CNC machining process. When the props are repaired they have to balence the prop by sanding off material from the faces of each blade. This process removes some or all the tool marks. It will not affect performance of the prop at all. Even ACME's repair shop does this. I just got mine back from them about 3 weeks ago. No worries, bolt it on and go!Jason
